He immediately put himself on the list of nominations for the goal of the year: Sven Braken. Nota bene in ‘his’ Maastricht, as a VVV player, he scored the 0-5 in the Limburg clash. Vomiting is back in the Netherlands after an Italian adventure.
“I signed with good sense for VVV”, says Braken about his choice for the Venlonaren in the L1 program EveningGuests Sports†
To attempt
The 72nd minute of MVV Maastricht against VVV-Venlo last Friday will probably not soon be forgotten by Braken. Vomiten is on the field for two minutes when the ball is passed. The attacker doesn’t think twice and scores the 0-5 for VVV in Maastricht with a bicycle kick. “People who know me know that I try something like this. It is fantastic that it works like this. I didn’t think twice when I saw the ball coming,” says Braken when asked about his first thoughts on the goal.
Maastricht
The fact that Braken scores in Maastricht makes the goal extra special. “I entered MVV as a 7-year-old boy, played in the first team there for four years and I know a lot of people there. I thought the most special thing was that I got applause from the MVV audience.”
Italy
However, it is not the first time that Braken has scored such a goal. From January 2020 to last summer, he played for AS Livorno, a team that plays at the third level in Italy. There he also scored from an overhead kick. After the game, Braken said Friday evening that the goal in Maastricht might be his ‘best goal ever’.

Movie
The Maastricht resident looks back on his Italian period with mixed feelings. “I went there with my girlfriend and a newborn child. In the beginning it was fantastic, it seemed as if we were living in a movie. But then the corona period came and the lack of family became great. In addition, I was gone more often for training camps and competitions, so my girlfriend was home alone with our child more often.”
Venlo
Last summer he returned to Limburg. He signed a two-year contract with VVV. “I signed with good sense for VVV. I think it is the right step.” Due to an injury and a corona infection, Braken mainly makes his minutes as a substitute. “I now score goals as a substitute, but I hope to become a basic player. It is up to me to show that I belong in the base.”

With VVV, he hopes to continue the line of two victories in a row into the rest of the season. “I sometimes tell people that there are plenty of examples of teams that only start peaking later, but then push through.”
