‘Sven and Tijs blow up Op1’

Is the new Op1 duo Sven Kockelmann and Tijs van den Brink about to kick out all their fellow presenters at the late talk show? “I would actually welcome that.”

The talk show Op1 is back from vacation and now that BNNVARA has left furiously, a broadcast day has become available: Friday. On that evening, Sven Kockelmann (WNL) and Tijs van den Brink (EO) will make a ‘political special series’ together in the run-up to the elections. They have worked together incidentally before, but now form a permanent duo.

Angela excited

Angela de Jong thinks it’s a good choice, she says in the AD Media podcast. “They have seen it work on Saturdays when there was big news from Russia and the cabinet that had fallen. Well, let them talk about politics that Friday night. I’d love to hear about those two. With only guests from that field.”

Her colleague, media journalist Marcus den Blanken, then: “I also think it’s good that they don’t stick so extreme anymore: it has to be one man and one woman. You can have two women together who do well, but these two just work together.”

How does that continue?

Media journalist Dennis Jansen wonders what exactly Sven and Tijs are up to. “I am curious how that will continue after the elections.”

Angela thinks those two can just know more. “I actually have to think about how Pauw and Witteman came about. They also started doing something together during election time, I think at NOVA at the time, and in the end that was the prelude to a joint late-night talk show. Who knows what will come of this.”

Op1 may stop

Dennis wouldn’t be surprised if Sven and Tijs kick all their colleagues out. “I’ve been on the phone a bit this week. The story goes that Op1 is of course finite, probably as early as January. Of course it could be: maybe those Thijs and Sven want to form a permanent duo on the late evening. I would welcome that one way or another.”

Angela is curious. “They both have to give up a lot. Although, haha, I still see them both as just doing the radio four times a week.”

Khalid & Sophia

It is of course striking that Op1 has still not received the green light to continue in 2024, because this year only has four months left. Possibly it has already been contrived with Sven and Tijs that the two of them will continue later.

There was also earlier speculation about a possible move of Khalid & Sophie to the late evening, in case Eva Jinek wants to broadcast at the seven o’clock slot from January. According to the AD, however, it will only start after the summer of 2024. What will happen to Khalid & Sophie is still unknown.
