Michael Zetterer earned a regular place in Werder Bremen’s goal over the course of the 2023/2024 season and has started every game since then. There are now clear trends as to his future with the Bundesliga club.
In the middle of the first half of the season, Werder head coach Ole Werner made the change due to injury: Instead of Jiri Pavlenka, Munich-born Michael Zetterer has been between the Bremen posts since the 8th Bundesliga matchday.
And that’s quite successful: In the Zetterer table since matchday 8, Bremen has conceded fewer goals than FC Bayern, Borussia Dortmund or RB Leipzig.
Werder wants to reward the goalkeeper’s stable performance in the coming weeks and provide Zetterer with a new working paper.
“We have made an appointment with his consulting agency and will sit down together as soon as possible,” Werder’s professional boss Clemens Fritz confirmed to the club-affiliated portal “Deichstube” about the club’s efforts to extend the 28-year-old goalkeeper’s contract, which currently runs until 2025, at an early stage .
Zetterer has already played 17 games this season for Werder Bremen
Zetterer is said to have aroused interest among other clubs with his performances in recent months. According to the media report, Stade Rennes from France, FC Fulham from England and AS Roma from Italy are said to be interested in the Werder keeper.
According to his own statement, he feels completely comfortable in his current role at SVW and is currently not planning any spatial changes.
Zetterer has been under contract with Werder Bremen since 2015. In the current season, he has already made 17 appearances before the Bundesliga home game against Borussia Dortmund (Saturday from 6:30 p.m.) – more than in all other seasons combined.
