SV Sandhausen signs Girdvainis | Transfer market

47 international matches for Lithuania

Edvinas Girdvainis is strengthening SV Sandhausen for the second half of the season. The defender is moving from Kauno Zalgiris to the 3rd division on a free transfer. “As captain of the national team, Edi brings a lot of experience and knows German football from his time in Uerdingen. That’s why I’m sure he can help us directly,” said sports director Matthias Imhof about the transfer.

“Since we are very thin in central defense, we are expanding our options in the squad for the coming year,” continued the 55-year-old. In 2020, Girdvainis moved to Germany for the first time and was under contract with then third division club KFC Uerdingen, where he played 32 games. “I’m happy to be back in Germany because I really enjoyed my time in this football-crazy country. Now I’m ready to help the team quickly,” explained the newcomer after signing the contract.
