SV Sandhausen irritates Oral: “To draw attention to myself again”

fight for relegation

After the release of Alois Schwartz, SV Sandhausen is tackling the mission of staying up with the experienced head coach Tomas Oral. The 49-year-old was already on the sidelines for FSV Frankfurt, FC Ingolstadt and Karlsruher SC in the 2nd division, but his last engagement was a while ago and ended with the “Schanzern” in summer 2021. Oral got involved not only because of the attraction of the SVS, which had got into relegation difficulties, but also to be able to focus on itself again.

“The club is going through a difficult period right now, but if I wasn’t convinced that we could pull it together I wouldn’t have signed. The fact is that it is an attractive task to draw attention to myself again,” Oral explained in an interview withsports1‘ and at the same time made it clear that he didn’t want to use Sandhausen as a personal stepping stone: ‘Definitely not! I’m happy to be here, I’m convinced of this task and I want to save the club with all my might. In addition, I can then also build something here. Now I want to do my homework with the team.”

Sandhausen is at the bottom of the table after 21 of 34 matchdays, but the battle against relegation is currently very tight. The Kurpfälzer have played uninterruptedly in the German lower house since the 2012/13 season, and since then they have never reached a single-digit place. The current motto is: The main thing is to continue in the 2nd league. “I have enough experience, know such situations and try to help the SVS with it,” said Oral, for whom his own longer break is not a problem. “Everyone knows I can’t reinvent the wheel. I want to try with my coaching team to breathe life back into the squad. The boys should have fun playing football again. The quality is absolutely there.”

The coach may again receive the support of his confidante Michael Henke as an assistant coach. “Michael is always an issue for me. He is an experienced professional, impeccable in character and personality. But he is still under contract in Bielefeld.”
