SV Pesse surprising winner of the Indoor Soccer Ladies Cup

In a packed and very atmospheric Eendracht Sports Hall in Zwartemeer, SV Pesse and NWVV/Titan somewhat surprisingly reached the final of this increasingly growing tournament for women’s teams at the fifth edition of the ‘Ladies Cup’. The final ended 2-2, after which SV Pesse won the penalty shootout 3-2.

Vv Schoonebeek, the winner of the previous fourth edition of the Ladies Cup, reached the final day, but ultimately did not get further than sixth place. The finalists SV Pesse and NWVV/Titan did not become group winners in their groups of four teams, but finished second behind the group winners Klazienaveen and JWZ.

However, SV Pesse and NWVV/Titan won their cross-finals, meaning they still reached the final. SV Pesse drew 0-0 against JVZ in the first cross-final, but still reached the final thanks to a better penalty shootout. NWVV/Titan became the other finalist by beating Klazienaveen 2-1.

The tension was reduced in the final with loud encouragement from the very sympathetic supporters. Especially the penalty shootout after the 2-2 final result became a real war of nerves. SV Pesse, however, had better control of his nerves and scored three times. NWVV/ Titan hit twice from the spot.

Satisfied feeling

Mark Siekman, chairman of the organizing committee, looked back on the course of the ‘Ladies Cup’ with a satisfied feeling. “We had another fantastic day. It gives us a lot of energy to pick up the thread for next year as quickly as possible,” Siekman purred with satisfaction. “This year there were 52 teams. We hope to expand that number next year, but of course it must be manageable.”
