Experience for the relegation battle
SV Meppen struck twice more on Deadline Day. On Tuesday evening, the third division club had already announced the signing of central defender Bruno Soares (34), and on Wednesday afternoon it was also confirmed that Marcos Álvarez will be part of the team from now on. The 31-year-old striker was last active at Cracovia in Poland and had already participated in trial training. He gets a contract with the bottom of the 3rd division until the summer of 2024.
SVM sports director Heiner Beckmann said: “Marcos brings an incredible amount of experience – whether in the relegation or promotion battle. His goal threat, his physicality and his strong standards are well known. Due to the international transfer and the associated regulations, the obligation has dragged on a bit. Now we’re glad it worked. I’m sure that Marcos will help us as a guy, with his playing quality and mentality.”
Soares is coming to Emsland from the Icelandic second division club HK Kópavogs, has signed a working paper until the summer and is the direct replacement for Jonas Fedl: “It was only since yesterday that we were certain that he would need an operation on his adductors. We hoped to the last that this would not be necessary. It is therefore all the more important that we were able to sign Bruno Soares for the vacant position at such short notice. He brings an incredible amount of experience from many second division games,” said head coach Stefan Kramer about the new signing.
