SV Darmstadt 98: Fabian Nürnberger comes from 1. FC Nürnberg

Quote from SanPellegrino

Could someone from Nuremberg give a really honest assessment of where his strengths lie and how he has already indicated them under good conditions and can show them more consistently (what you can hear) in a good environment? Would you also like an assessment of whether it can potentially be enough as a regular player for the Bundesliga if he can call it up completely? Because what you’ve read so far is that the majority is more or less “satisfied” with the departure, but probably because he’s not constantly calling on his potential?

Nürnberger brings with it a good overall package. Physically he has a good mix of robustness and agility, his technique is also okay. He doesn’t shy away from courageous duels and can certainly tear gaps with his dribbles. When he gets close to the goal, he has already shown really good shots (including long-distance shots). Actually, he brings quite a lot with what you can need as a box-to-box player.

Unfortunately, he hasn’t been that strong in the areas of decision-making, game overview, passing, backward movement and self-control. Nürnberger is a little hothead who, for my taste, attracts attention far too often through complaining and moaning. He usually tries to solve situations playfully or with his technique, but still makes the wrong decision all too often, runs/dribbles and has slight ball losses, which can really hurt a team moving forward. Nürnberger is still too timid in the game, especially when it comes to preventing counter-attacks. He needs more steam on the boiler.

Nürnberger, who is almost 24 years old, must finally take the next step away from this young player who is somewhat self-absorbed about his technique and towards a seasoned professional. He has a lot of self-confidence, you can see that, but sometimes it seems to turn into a little overconfidence when he goes back to dangerous dibbling instead of playing the simple pass to the next man. He can play football, it can also be enough for him to become a Bundesliga professional. But he simply has to finally grow up as a footballer. Clever play, better passing, more overview of the game, better decisions on the pitch, more responsibility, these are the things that I think are still problematic at the moment.

He wants, will and must try to make it into the Bundesliga. It is very difficult to say whether that will be enough. There is potential, but there are also clear deficits.
