Suzanne Schulting lives relaxed towards the Games thanks to corona | To skate

“I find the run-up even calmer than during the previous Games in Pyeongchang,” says Schulting, who won gold in South Korea in the 1000 meters and bronze with the women’s relay team. “Back then we had to do a lot and show up everywhere. Sometimes you were gone all day. Now that is not the case because of corona. That is quite relaxed, there is much less fuss. You are much more involved with your team and much more on yourself.”

Due to the corona virus, 24-year-old Schulting has been seeing as few people as possible for quite some time. She doesn’t have a lot of trouble with that, she says. “It’s all for the greater good. And it’s only a month now. What is a month? I think it sounds pretty fast. Moreover, you can now solve a lot with calling and facetime.” She is not afraid of getting infected herself. “We have been testing daily for about a month now. It’s in our system.”

‘EC was a fantastic incentive’

Many international tournaments were canceled due to the corona virus. It has been a while since Schulting could compete with its competitors. It is not ideal, but the Frisian is not so concerned about it. “The European Championship, for example, would have been a fantastic incentive for the Games. But I’m not the only one who couldn’t compete. The Asians, Canadians and Americans are in the same boat. You can panic about that. But that’s the way it is. I get a lot of confidence from last season. Then I rode very strong at the European Championships and the World Cup.”
