Suvi Teräsniska experienced a marital crisis – divorce was not an option

Suvi Teräsniska talked about her crisis with her husband Simon in the Vain läämää program. Today, the family is happy, and still together.

Singer Suvi Teräsniska is happy that gigs and tours have returned to their familiar surroundings after the corona years. The festival summer included a total of 43 gigs around Finland, and in the fall Teräsniska toured concert halls together with the Yö band.

This year, the descent into Christmas peace will be bigger than before: Teräsniska will perform at Tampere’s Nokia Arena This world needs Christmas – on the occasion of his big concert on December 17.

Teräsniska has been doing Christmas tours around Finland since 2009. – The upcoming big concert at the Nokia Arena is just the icing on the cake! PASI LEISMA

– I just made a war plan for our family. I booked train tickets to Tampere for our children and grandparents, we’re going to watch the Tappara–Kärpät ice hockey match on Friday, says Teräsniska.

At Christmas, Teräsniska, 33, hopes to be able to relax with her family, as the past year has caused fatigue.

– Every year it gets tiring at this point, that’s a fact. I wanted to do a lot of gigs this year so that the musicians and other actors in our group could balance their finances.

– Our family’s luck was that my company had a very stable financial situation when the corona started, so my husband Simon and we stayed on our feet these years, the artist states.

Suvi Teräsniska says that she lives in the moment. – Sometimes I enjoy the moment a little too much, and some important things go undone, he states. PASI LEISMA

The couple has enough moving parts in everyday life, because because of working at the same workplace, they have to find caregivers for the family’s three sons while the parents are away. Steel neck is very grateful that there are many loving adults in their close circle who can like Fertilize, Of hope and Of faith care if necessary.

– I never have the burden of missing the children, because they don’t really. The second the door closes, they stay home with grandma and get half as much done. They will be very satisfied then, Teräsniska laughs.

Teräsniska states that in the future, when all three children are in school, the couple may have to rethink their work arrangements so that one of the parents can be at home with the children more.

The crisis was overcome

A year ago, Teräsniska was seen for the second time as an artist in the Vain läämä program. He remembers both of his participations fondly.

– Only life is a wonderful thing because there you can get the peer support you need from your colleagues. The first time I went through my own pains as an artist and the second time I dealt more with the issues of my personal life, he opens.

In the program, Teräsniska discussed, among other things, her marital crisis, which she and Simon experienced in the spring of 2021. Teräsniska says that she went to therapy to talk about her relationship and other things in her life. As an experience, the therapy was especially good because the artist could talk to an outsider about the pain points of his work without being judged.

The couple did not talk about their crisis with their loved ones or their children, as it seemed unnecessary. They also quickly realized that they don’t want to separate but to continue in the same direction.

– Of course, the possibility of separation scared me, I didn’t want to think about it. However, we have always been together and I believed in us even then, says Teräsniska.

Family routine

Suvi Teräsniska says that she takes care of the family’s Christmas preparations to the last drop. – After my Christmas concert, I will go to Oulu before our family to prepare for Christmas. PASI LEISMA

Today, the relationship is doing well and Teräsniska says that she is very happy with her family. What makes the singer especially happy is that the children are growing up and you can have more and more conversations with them.

– Maybe I don’t think I’m such a normal “sandbox mother”. It has even been a little difficult for me to come up with new games all the time. Fortunately, the three boys also play together a lot, Teräsniska laughs.

Suvi often hears that she is like the “girl next door from Oulu”. – That’s kind of what I am, it doesn’t bother me at all, he laughs. PASI LEISMA

The oldest of the boys started first grade in the fall. Teräsniska spends a lot of time at home in front of the laptop on weekdays, so after the first grader’s school day is over, they can also spend time together before the little ones are picked up from kindergarten.

– I love having that mother-son time and doing homework together! Besides that, there is a lot new in Terho’s life, when he should know how to read and count, so he needs an adult by his side, he continues.

No superstardom

Suvi says that she does not dream of “superstardom”. PASI LEISMA

One big support pillar in Teräsniska’s career was Olli Lindholm, the soloist of the band Yö, who died unexpectedly in 2019. Teräsniska says that she has always received help in matters related to her career from Lindholm. Today, when he picks up the phone, he calls the musician Leri Leskinen.

– I’ve noticed that when you say the distressing thing out loud, it already helps in itself. Often people also want to say something nice to you. This is what I have had to learn because I have been the “lonely wanderer” since I was little, Teräsniska sums up.

Teräsniska says that she leans on her band Yö during difficult times. – Even though the frontman is gone, it still feels like a family that you can always return to. PASI LEISMA

Teräsniska’s 15-year career has included performances for large audiences for a long time. However, the artist admits that he does not dream of real “superstardom”, in which case only big stages and stadiums would be suitable for gigs.

– I love doing gigs in pubs, ski resorts and on ships. It would be a shame if one day I couldn’t go to a restaurant gig because the venue was too small, he concludes.
