Sustainable Fashion Awards 2022: building a circular future

Un event that increasingly has the ambition to mark the way towards greater sustainability of all industrial sectors, not just that of the fashion sector. This is the purpose of the CNMI Sustainable Fashion Awards 2022.

The fifth edition, which marks in return in presence the pause for pandemic, in the words of Carlo Capasa, President of the National Chamber of Italian Fashionwill be that «of maturity, in which to go further, also adding a scientific work. The showcase that becomes an effective laboratory to build something important for the future“. Not just about fashion, but about the planet as a whole.

It is therefore not surprising that partners of this new edition will be two important realities like the Ellen MacArthur Foundation and theEthical Fashion Initiative. In addition to The Woolmark Company, present since the first edition as a representative of the most sustainable of materials: sheep’s wool.

Sustainability and circularity at the center

The themes are those dear to the Italian Chamber of Fashion right from the start, with the addition of a focus on circularity, the 3 items on sale that are dear to the Macarthur foundation: 1. Eliminate pollution, 2. Circulate materials, 3. Regenerate natureas he explained Laura Balmond Project Manager for “Make Fashion Circular” at the Ellen MacArthur Foundation.

On the other hand, as he pointed out Simone Cipriani, Director & Founder ofEthical Fashion Initiative during today’s press conference, «The Italian industry in fashion with a global impact», being an example for other sectors is essential.

Symbol of the event is the Third Paradise by Michelangelo Pistoletto. If the first paradise is that of communion between man and nature, the second the artificial Paradise, the Third, as explained by Capasa, is that of the “Balanced Connection” between man and the environment. A guide that since 2012 has inspired the drafting of the Sustainability manifesto for Italian fashionon the initiative of Anna Zegna and Carlo Capasa. Manifesto that Camera and brand have been carrying out for years with concrete commitments and discussion tables.

Fashion is changing

In a few years our awareness of the environment has totally changed and today we know well that it is no longer a question only to give a signal but to reverse course – he has declared Alessia Cappello, Councilor for Economic Development and Labor Policies, with responsibility for Fashion and Design – I warmly welcome the attention that the award intends to place on the corporate vision, rather than on individual initiatives, and above all the entry of a non-profit committee ».
