In order to further expand its sustainable image, the clothing supplier Esprit Holdings Ltd. organized an event focusing on mycelium and more sustainable materials.
With guests like the model Toni Garrn and the Tiktokern Elevator Boys, the “future orientation around the exploration of sustainable materials in the fashion industry was celebrated,” Esprit announced on Thursday. The company presented its research activities with mycelium, which were visualized with an installation. To this end, Esprit works together with Pentatonic, an innovation-oriented management consultancy with a focus on sustainability.
However, Esprit’s research with mycelium was not geared towards a leather alternative, as has been seen with brands such as Lululemon and Adidas over the past year, but rather its ability to “penetrate and dissolve clothing” so that it does not end up in landfills, such wit. To go with this, the guests could have an Esprit piece printed with a mushroom motif.
Apart from a great whirlwind of installations and 3D projections, however, it was not yet clear to what extent the company plans to incorporate the research results into the design process and sustainability efforts.
