Suspicious deaths on the 15th floor: David Z. remains detained longer

Two people died under suspicious circumstances in the apartment of 37-year-old David Z. in Tilburg-Noord. His wife died in December 2020 and his new housemate ten months later. The court in Breda determined Tuesday in an interim session that there are enough indications to detain him longer. And that is remarkable because he was released after only three weeks after the death of his wife and has never been incarcerated for the death of his new roommate. He was not arrested until April this year.

On Tuesday, the public prosecutor sketched a picture of David Z. humiliating and beating his wife (33) and his roommate (36). The drink flowed freely in the Pole’s flat, it turned out. According to the officer, David’s wife was ‘addicted to alcohol’ and his future housemate was ‘blooded that evening’.

Two children
His wife, with whom he had two children, died in December 2020. His roommate, whom he needed to pay the rent after his wife’s death, followed in October 2021. David lived with them on the fifteenth floor of the Mozartflat at the Mozartlaan in Tilburg. Both times, David was the only person in the apartment.

David Z. had been in jail for three weeks after the death of his wife, but was released again. Justice, however, always remained convinced that Z. had something to do with her death. After the death of his housemate, there was even more doubt. Ultimately, Z. was arrested in April of this year and will remain in custody after this interim hearing.

Traces of violence
Z.’s lawyer argued that he should be released, because the pathologists’ section would show that the woman and the housemate did not die due to Z. But the court did not agree.

The public prosecutor is convinced that Z. has everything to do with the death of his wife and his roommate. There are quite a few traces of violence on both victims and there would be no evidence that he wanted to help the two in any way. Z. would also lie about his actions and keep coming up with different explanations.

In the near future, the Public Prosecution Service wants to have David Z. investigated by various experts. When that report is ready, the case can be dealt with substantively.

The next interim session is on September 8.
