A 40-year-old is said to have attacked several passengers on a Deutsche Bahn train.

On Wednesday morning there was a verbal argument between several passengers in the bicycle compartment in the Regionalexpress 3 towards Berlin in the Barnim district, the police said on Thursday.

The man then got involved in the debate and insulted and spat on a 54-year-old. When a 33-year-old man intervened, the suspect racially insulted him. The man only stopped when other passengers intervened.

He was caught by emergency services at Bernau train station. The 40-year-old is already known to the police for several crimes and violent crimes. He is now being investigated on suspicion of incitement to hatred and physical harm.

Train service continued without delay.
