For professional cyclist Michel Heßmann, the B sample confirmed the positive doping test. The National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) announced this on Friday (November 3rd, 2023).
Nothing more can be said at this point, it is still an ongoing process, said a spokeswoman. Heßmann’s lawyer Rainer Cherkeh referred to his previous statement that there was no improper use of a diuretic. “According to the current investigation results and findings from other diuretic cases, everything points to contamination.”he told the German Press Agency.
Heßmann tested positive for a diuretic during a training check in Germany on June 14th. The agents stimulate urine production and thus ensure the body’s drainage. He was suspended from his team Jumbo-Visma in August after the case became known. The team spokesman did not respond to an inquiry about the new development by Friday afternoon.
No doping substances were found during the search
In mid-August, a search was carried out at Heßmann’s house in the Freiburg area. Officials from the Baden-Württemberg State Criminal Police Office seized data carriers and no doping substances were found.
Heßmann made his debut at the Giro d’Italia this year Grand Tour given after becoming European champion in the mixed relay in 2020. Heßmann still has a contract with Jumbo-Visma until 2024.
