Suspects remain in jail for violent hostage-taking

The facts took place in the night of Monday 18 to Tuesday 19 July in the center of Bruges. A young man was treated very violently and forced into a car. The victim was then tied up and trumped again at an apartment in Izegem. He would have lost consciousness up to three times. Finally, he managed to free himself, as his guard had fallen asleep. He could walk to a police station nearby.

That same Tuesday evening, three young men were arrested at the apartment in Izegem. This includes the tenant of the property. However, the suspect denies having anything to do with the kidnapping. In the meantime, the suspected driver of the vehicle used had also already been identified via the number plate. She was also quickly arrested.

drug environment

The hostage situation would take place within the drug environment, but the exact motive for the facts remains unclear for the time being. A few suspects may still be on the run, but the prosecutor’s office is not currently making any statements about this either.

On Monday, the young woman appeared before the council chamber in Bruges. Her detention was extended for another month. Tuesday morning it was the turn of the three other suspects. The council chamber ruled that in the interest of the investigation they too must remain in jail for at least a month longer.
