Suspects of Van Quickenborne kidnapping attempt to resist extradition
The public prosecutor in Amsterdam has decided today that the extradition detention of four men aged 20, 21, 29 and 48 will be continued. The Belgian authorities have requested their surrender. They are suspected of involvement in plans to kidnap the Belgian Minister of Justice Vincent Van Quickenborne.
The four men were arrested in The Hague and surroundings last Saturday and Sunday after the Belgian authorities had requested this by means of a European Arrest Warrant (EAW).
The men were brought before a prosecutor today. He has decided that the four men remain in surrender detention. Also, the restrictions remain in place, meaning they are not allowed to have contact with anyone except their lawyer.
None of the four men has agreed to the extradition. This means that it is up to the International Legal Aid Chamber (IRK) of the Amsterdam court to decide whether the surrender is allowed. That public hearing will take place within 60 days.
