The police have arrested a Haarlemmer (19) and a man from Heemstede (21), who are suspected of severely assaulting a 23-year-old Haarlemmer. After the RTL program OpsporingNL devoted an item to the assault in the Haarlem Langeveerstraat, the police were tipped off about the identity of the two suspects.
The man (23) from Haarlem was attacked by two men in the night of 10 to 11 April this year for unknown reasons. The perpetrators left the Haarlemmer unconscious after the assault, with a broken cheekbone and jaw.
The victim is said to have met one of the suspects in a cafe that evening. After they both left there, the men later met again at a takeaway restaurant on Lange Veerstraat.
Knocked to the ground
When the victim left there on the bicycle around 1.30 am, his attacker (19) ran after him and knocked him to the ground. He received help from the 21-year-old man from Heemstede.
There was no trace of the perpetrators until police released images of the assault. A tip and further investigation eventually led them to the two young men.
The suspects from Haarlem and Heemstede are detained and are being interrogated. The victim has been informed of the two arrests.
