“I lay down in the living room of our student house because a friend of mine was sleeping in my room,” Ype says on Saturday morning. “At one point, the door I had left open was opened from the courtyard. Two people came in. They didn’t see me and immediately ran to the back, to the emergency exit. They opened that door and ran outside again. I was quite shocked by that. I’m trying to sleep here, I sighed. I got up and locked the door.”

“It was quite scary.”

He lay down again and fell asleep again. “But a few minutes later I heard another rumble outside. Then officers came in. I got a flashlight pointed at me. “Have people passed by here?” they asked. “What happened? It was quite scary.”

He was unable to provide officers with a description of the culprits. “No, it was very dark and it all happened very quickly. People ran across the living room, but it really happened in a flash.”

“I don’t know how long I’m going to live here.”

Ype is shocked by all the commotion. “Certainly when the police came in. I am used to strange things from the cafe we live behind. But when the police came, I thought: okay, now something is really wrong. Something really happened here. I’ve seen people try to escape through our courtyard and then climb over the wall for example. I don’t know how long I’ll be living here, to be honest. It’s getting a bit unsociable now. This does affect my choice of whether I would like to stay longer stay or not.”

Shisha lounge Club One was located in the building where the explosion took place. It was closed by the mayor for months after the building was shelled at the end of last year and an explosive was found. According to local residents, activity in the building has been going on for several months.

Police believe the explosion was intentional. The front of the building was badly damaged, but no one was injured in the explosion.
