Suspects drug lab Stieltjeskanaal remain detained longer

The five men who, according to the Public Prosecution Service (OM) ran a drug lab in a farm in Stieltjeskanaal at the beginning of this year, will remain in custody for longer. The court in Groningen has decided this today.

The drug lab was dismantled by the police on January 5. The lab produced amphetamine (speed). Its street value is approximately 800 euros per litre. According to the Public Prosecution Service, no end product was available yet. Five men, including a 56-year-old man from Stieltjeskanaal, were arrested. The other men come from Brielle (39), Dordrecht (37) and Zwijndrecht (34). Another 36-year-old man has no home address. They all deny any involvement.

The Public Prosecution Service sees sufficient evidence to the contrary through the DNA material that was left behind on mouth caps, a gas mask and gloves that were at the drug lab.

The 36-year-old suspect drove a van with empty jerry cans. He only brought and fetched people, said the man at the hearing. Other than that, he was not involved, even though his DNA material had also been left behind on a mask at the lab.

The pre-trial detention of the five men has been extended by three months. It is not yet known when the cases will be dealt with.
