Suspected assassination attempt on prime minister of Japan indicted | Abroad

The Japanese news agency Kyodo reports that 24-year-old Kimura is said to have been furious because he could not stand in elections last year. A three-month psychological examination is said to have shown that he is mentally fit to face his trial. The Japanese authorities have also determined that the explosive used could have been deadly.

Gun violence and assaults are rare in Japan, which has one of the lowest homicide rates in the world. The attacks on Abe and Kishida have therefore deeply shocked the country, according to the American news agency Associated Press.
