A suspect reported to the police last night for involvement in the assault of 17-year-old Estela last Friday during the Aalsmeer Feestweek. The suspect has been arrested, the police confirmed to NH this morning.
The police do not want to make any further statements about his age or place of residence. Estela from Uithoorn suffered a concussion and a broken nose as a result of the abuse and became very anxious. “I only dare to go to the supermarket with my grandmother,” she told NH.
All kinds of stories immediately went around on social media about the possible perpetrator, but this also resulted in someone being wrongly accused. The police therefore called on yesterday to stop speculating and to come directly to them with information.
According to mother Sanne Baartman, images of the person who reported yesterday were also circulated. She is very relieved that he has been arrested and asks people to drop the matter now in the interest of the investigation and the upcoming trial.
“The Public Prosecution Service and the court will take over. Let them do the work. Thank you for sharing and the kind messages. That does us good,” she writes on Facebook.
Punch on the nose
Estela remembers a very nice evening with her friends until the fan she was carrying is taken away by an unknown boy. When he doesn’t give the fan back, Estela tries to take it back herself. “The next thing I know, I got hit in the nose from the left side,” she told NH.
The boy immediately ran away after punching him. Estela is initially very angry and doesn’t realize how bad she is until her friends point out to her that her entire shirt is covered in blood.
Images
The next morning, Estela’s mother Sanne Baartman ensures that the organization of the party week secures the images of the incident. The organization confirms to NH that the perpetrator is clearly visible in the images. The police investigation will have to show whether the person who reported is also the person in the images.
