The 27-year-old man suspected of involvement in the murder of Peter R. de Vries will remain in prison longer. The chamber of the court in Amsterdam has extended his pre-trial detention by 90 days.
Krystian M. from Poland was arrested on July 4 in his cell in the penitentiary in Lelystad. That same day, two men were also arrested in Spain and Curaçao. They are now both in the Netherlands and are also detained.
De Vries was shot in the center of Amsterdam on July 6 last year and died nine days later. The two suspected perpetrators of the murder were arrested shortly after the attack. The Public Prosecution Service demanded a life sentence against them in June. The court was due to rule on their case last Thursday, but this has been postponed indefinitely.
The Public Prosecution Service sent statements from a protected witness last week, which were not yet in the file. According to the court, these documents may be important for its judgment in the case. The lawyers of the two suspects, Delano G. and Kamil E., should also be given the opportunity to request further investigation based on the new material.
The three new arrests are the result of the investigation of the national investigation into the client (s) and other people involved in the murder. Justice suspects Krystian M. that he directly directed the suspected executors. He was imprisoned in connection with a liquidation attempt in Zeewolde in October last year. It is suspected that the murder of De Vries has to do with his role as a confidential counselor in the extensive liquidation process Marengo, in which the main suspect is Ridouan Taghi. Earlier, the brother and the lawyer of the key witness were murdered.
commemorative monument
In the meantime, 1023 people have provided input for the memorial monument for Peter R. de Vries at the municipality of Amsterdam. Until Sunday, anyone could leave words and values they associate with the crime reporter who died last year on a special website.
These words serve as inspiration for the monument that will be on the Leidsepleinthe place where the old studio of RTL Boulevard is located and near the street where De Vries was shot last year. He died on July 15 last year as a result of this attack.
Justice, courage and decisiveness are words that appear most often in the entries, the municipality says. Five artists have been asked to share their vision of the monument with the words as inspiration to a special art committee, which also includes the van De Vries family. The committee will choose the final design in the autumn. It is not yet known when the monument will actually be built.
