Suspect of violent robberies Assen detained longer

A 30-year-old Groningen man who is suspected of a number of violent robberies will be detained longer. He is suspected of involvement in violent armed robberies in Assen and Vlaardingen. Those robberies in Assen were in December last year. The robbery in Vlaardingen was in July.

The man would have threatened with a firearm and would have been in charge of a home robbery in Vlaardingen. Earlier, a 22-year-old man from Gasselternijveen, a 14-year-old boy from Assen and a 35-year-old man from Den Helder were arrested in connection with that robbery.

Seven suspects have now been detained in the Vlaardingen and Assense case. They are said to have committed house robberies in varying compositions. In Assen that would have happened at the Van Swinderenhof and the hamlet of Anreep.

The gang went heavy-handed. In Vlaardingen, a newly married couple was the target. The two were tied up and robbed of valuables and a large amount of money. During the robbery in December 2022 in Anreep – just outside Assen – the residents received four men at the door. The victims were threatened with a gun, blindfolded and tied up.

One of the victims is also said to have been doused with a flammable substance. A safe was the target of the robbery. The robbers only left after several hours, when the safe could not be cracked. A few days later there was a robbery at the Van Swinderenhof in Assen. A 44-year-old Assenaar and a 40-year-old man from Enschede are detained for that robbery.

The 30-year-old Groningen man denies having anything to do with the robberies.
