The 30-year-old suspect of a stabbing on the Alkmaarse Laat was arrested this morning in a home in Arnhem. This happened about nine months after the stabbing took place. The police previously said they suspect that the man was hiding in or around Arnhem.
The man is suspected of attacking a then 30-year-old Alkmaarder in broad daylight on 19 October 2021 with a machete. The victim of the stabbing was bleeding profusely at the end of that morning found on the late. The assailant managed to escape on a scooter.
There has been no trace of him ever since. During the investigation, the identity of the perpetrator was revealed. The perpetrator and the victim are acquaintances and, according to a police officer, ‘also had a collision in the past where blows were thrown’. According to the victim, however, they were now “on good terms again.”
‘Pretty unique’
The police also found out that the perpetrator probably resided in Arnhem. After distributing several search messages and sharing photos in which the suspect was not clearly depicted, the police submitted a request to the Public Prosecution Service so that this suspect could be identified in a recognizable way.
The police then shared the shocking images of the stabbing and was also his name announced. The latter is ‘quite unique’, police spokesman Erwin Sintenie previously told NH Nieuws.
Now the search for the man has come to an end. With the help of the East Netherlands police unit, the suspect was arrested in Arnhem. He has since been transferred to the North Holland unit. The investigation into the stabbing continues here.
The victim has been notified of the arrest.
