Pending his surrender to the Netherlands, the man appeared in court last Wednesday in Paderborn, Germany. He was subsequently detained pending surrender. He was found in his cell on Thursday after attempting suicide. He was subsequently hospitalized in critical condition.
The man was suspected of killing a 38-year-old woman and a 6-year-old boy, of whom he is the father. The two were found dead on Monday morning in a house on Emmalaan in Geldermalsen. The man was found in his car in Germany during the night from Monday to Tuesday.
It is still unclear how the suicide attempt could have happened. The Public Prosecution Service does not want to make any announcements about this yet. The Public Prosecution Service has previously said that it is in “close contact” with the German justice system. Due to his death, it is no longer possible to prosecute the man, the Public Prosecution Service reports. The police investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
