A suspect in the assault on football star Kheira Hamraoui of Paris Saint-Germain was arrested on Wednesday, the prosecutor’s office in Versailles reported. A source close to the investigation told AFP news agency that the suspect was “known to the police” and was “a friend” of Aminata Diallo, a teammate of Hamraoui. He is said to have “played a part in the attack”.
Diallo and Hamraoui, rivals for the same position at the Paris club, were in a car together after a party on November 4 last year. Two masked men stopped the vehicle and pulled Hamraoui from the car, only to beat her on the legs with iron bars. Diallo was arrested earlier in the investigation for possible involvement, but was later released without charge.
“It is not known to us that a friend of Diallo’s has been taken into custody,” Diallo’s lawyer said. “Aminata wants the truth more than anyone else to come out in this case.”
