In the night from Thursday to Friday, the police arrested a man suspected of involvement in three stabbing incidents in Utrecht. That the police reported on Friday. In less than a week, three young women were stabbed in the same street, one of them in the face.
All three women were on bicycles when they were attacked. The violent crimes all took place on Balijelaan, a street in the Rivierenwijk. The victims were between 20 and 23 years old, and the attacks took place between September 27 and October 3. After the crimes, the police launched a major investigation and more officers were stationed “visibly and invisibly” in the neighborhood. The suspect was tracked down by a tip from a citizen to a local police officer.
Nothing is yet known about the motives of the suspect who has now been arrested, the police said. It concerns a 37-year-old man from Utrecht. He is suspected of involvement in all three attacks, which means that the police appear to assume that the perpetrator acted alone.
