Survey: SPD is catching up somewhat – the Union’s lead is decreasing

BERLIN (dpa-AFX) – According to an Insa survey, the SPD is slightly catching up in favor with voters and is narrowing the gap to the Union somewhat: However, it is still unchallenged in first place. Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s Social Democrats got 17 percent in the “Bild” survey – that’s one percentage point more than a week ago and their best Insa value in over a year. The Union with candidate for chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) loses one point and is now at 31 percent. Three weeks ago, the CDU/CSU had an 18 percentage point lead on Insa – now it is still 14 points ahead.

The Greens have lost one percentage point compared to the previous week and are now at 11 percent. The FDP, which left the traffic light coalition, climbed by one point and could just about make it into the Bundestag with 5 percent if there was an election now. The AfD gained one point to 20 percent on the so-called Sunday question. The Alliance Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW) is stagnating at 8 percent. The Left achieved 3 percent (minus 1) – so it would probably not be represented in the Bundestag.

According to Insa, according to these figures, there is currently a majority for a coalition of the Union and the SPD as well as for a so-called Jamaica coalition of the Union, the Greens and the FDP, but not for the black-green coalition. 1203 people were surveyed from December 9th to 13th. The maximum margin of error is plus/minus 2.9 percentage points.

Chancellor Scholz wants to raise a vote of confidence in the Bundestag on Monday – with the aim of losing the subsequent vote and bringing about an early federal election on February 23rd.

Election surveys are generally always subject to uncertainty. Among other things, weakening party ties and increasingly short-term voting decisions make it more difficult for opinion research institutes to weight the data collected. In principle, surveys only reflect the opinion at the time of the survey and are not predictions of the election outcome./bg/DP/men
