According to a survey, almost one in two adults in Great Britain cried because of the Queen’s death. 44 percent of those surveyed have therefore shed a tear, as the opinion research institute Yougov announced on Monday.

For women and people over 65, it was more than half (55 percent each). In contrast, voters in the opposition party Labor (37 percent) and men (32 percent) cried much less frequently. Among the boys (18 to 24 years) it was only one in four (25 percent).

Queen Elizabeth II died on Thursday at the age of 96 after 70 years on the throne.

According to the survey, a good half (52 percent) believe that it was right to delete sporting and cultural events out of respect. However, there has also been heavy criticism.

The decision to declare the day of the state funeral (September 19) as a non-working holiday meets with broad approval – this is supported by 86 percent.
