Survey commissioned by Verimatrix reveals the extent of fraud, hacking and piracy in esports

Omdia’s report predicts that esports revenues will reach $3.1 billion by 2026 at a compound annual growth rate of 14.1 percent. By providing a comprehensive analysis of the steps that should be taken to protect the industry from potentially dangerous threats to reputation and revenue, the report provides an analysis of the survey results, using the data to paint a possible picture for prioritizing security efforts in e-sports.

Other important findings:

• 81% of respondents indicated that cheating or hacking in esports is either a major or moderate concern for them
• 55% rated piracy as a medium or high concern, indicating a growing perception that streaming and broadcasting of eSports events are increasingly under attack
• 88% said their precautions against fraud, hacking or piracy were either slightly or very different than those they took for mainstream sports
• Almost 40% of respondents still do not use a security service
