Surprising: Knokke-Heist retains its municipal schools
Knokke-Heist wanted to transfer the two schools because there are fewer and fewer students and the school buildings are outdated. But there was a lot of protest. And the governor even canceled the transfer because of procedural errors.
The city council is now binding and waives a transfer. “After internal consultation, the college of mayor and aldermen decided today not to put the decision about the transfer on the agenda again, and has asked the chairman of the city council to cancel the extra meeting of August 21, 2023. All parties and authorities involved will be informed today about the preservation of municipal education.”
The municipal council wants to do everything possible to ensure that the start of the 2023-2024 school year runs smoothly. “The students, teachers, staff and parents of the municipal primary education in Knokke-Heist can thus start the new school year in a calm way.”
