Wim Jonk stops as trainer of FC Volendam. Matthias Kohler, 31, succeeds him. Kohler is the current assistant coach. Jonk will become technical manager of professional football, the club announced tonight.
Kohler has been employed by FC Volendam since 2021. Before that he was a trainer in the youth of FC Basel. He also worked at AS Trencin, Ajax Cape Town and at Ajax as a youth coach. “I am proud and honored to be able to take over from Wim,” says Kohler.
Next step
The football club says that after the promotion to the premier league, this is the next step to become a sustainable and healthy club. Jonk will work closely with current technical director Jasper van Leeuwen.
Jonk has been a trainer of FC Volendam for the past four years. Under his leadership, the club promoted and maintained itself in the premier league. On the club’s site, he says that he asked himself whether he wanted to continue in the same position. “The club should not depend on my person as head coach and as a technical manager I can add more to the foundation of the club. This also gives a lot of variety and new energy,” says Jonk.
