It is well known that FC Bayern are still looking for a defensive player after Benjamin Pavard left Inter Milan and would also like to add a defensive six to the squad. The fact that an offensive star from Munich could still be on the strike list comes as a surprise.
A farewell to Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting “is not out of the question,” judged the “kicker” on Thursday. The 34-year-old switched to Bayern Munich as a backup nine in 2020 and has actually done very well so far. In 89 appearances for the German record champions, the Cameroonian international has 35 goals and ten assists.
The fact that there is still a separation in the room could be a sign that Munich would like to increasingly rely on youngster Mathys Tel in the future. The 18-year-old has indicated his potential in 2022/23, having already scored a goal in a brief appearance against Werder Bremen (4-0) this season.
On the other hand, without Choupo-Moting, the workforce is rather thin. Only Tel would then remain behind top dog Harry Kane. Should one of the attackers injure himself, Thomas Müller and Serge Gnabry would still remain, who could help out in the middle of the attack, but neither of them are the ideal team for the nine.

However, Choupo-Moting’s contract on Säbener Straße ends in the summer of 2024 anyway. FC Bayern could only generate a fee during this transfer period.
Roger Wittmann, the adviser to the offensive veteran, indicated at least gently in the “Bild” that a premature departure from the Bavarian capital after the purchase of Harry Kane was at least not completely ruled out.
“When such a top-class striker is signed, the cards are reshuffled and Maxim’s role in the team changes. If he is dissatisfied with this role, we will find a solution,” said Wittmann, who clearly restricted: “But that’s not it so, Eric is very happy at Bayern.”
