Surf champion Anne Albers in action: ‘Sometimes I feel sick of Tata air after surfing in Wijk aan Zee’

In her home village of Wijk aan Zee, Dutch champion Anne Albers (27) learned to surf. But, she says she went home a little too often sick because of the smells ‘and what I breathe’ from Tata Steel. For the first time today she had her say in an action against Tata Steel. “The plans are there, but it can really go much faster.”

“I’m really worried,” says Anne on the beach of Wijk aan Zee, ready to dive into the water before joining the activists this morning. “It just cannot be the case that you cannot trust what you breathe in such a densely populated area. And you also have to be able to exercise healthy everywhere,” said the surfer who became Dutch champion for the second time last year.

According to Tata Steel’s plans, there will be two new green factories in the next fifteen years. As a result, coke plant 2, for example, could close at most around 2030. Activists think that is taking too long.

According to Tata Steel, this is necessary. If that part closes earlier, they will not survive, according to the company.
