Supremely powerful decathlete Rik Taam conquers Dutch championship

Rik Taam won the Dutch all-around title at the NK indoor for the second time in his career today. The athlete from De Rijp was, just like in 2021, too strong for the other participants in Apeldoorn: 6,053 points. Sven Jansons (5,721 points) and Sven Roosen (5,703 points) followed at a considerable distance.

After the first day at the NK indoor heptathlon, it didn’t look like Taam would win. Jeff Tesselaar had an advantage over the athlete from De Rijp. However, Tesselaar of the Amsterdam AAC was injured in the pole vault, the penultimate event.

Taam had one less competitor and struck mercilessly. He won the pole vault with a personal best (5.15 metres) and crossed the finish line first in the final 1,000 metres. He also did that with a pr (2.32.84). As a result, he became Dutch indoor champion in the all-around.
