Supreme Sudosa-Desto leaves Voltena completely without a chance

Coach Mark Afman had made one change in his starting team compared to last week against Draisma Dynamo. Lynn van Mill, previously playing for Voltena, started from the start instead of Romee Veenstra.

From the first revolutions of the ball, the Assen team had control over the match. Afman’s team dominated on all fronts. Voltena, which also lacked Raïsa Schoon, who played at the Beach Volleyball World Cup in Mexico and was eliminated in the quarter-finals, made many mistakes.

While at Sudosa-Desto everything actually worked in the first set. Through 6-1 and 15-7 it eventually became 25-13. Then, strangely enough, Afman’s team suddenly lost it for five minutes. Nothing worked in the opening phase of the second set.

‘That was a good warning’

Afman: “That was a good warning. You have to stay focused. We remained calm in that phase (6-1 behind) and regained focus.” A great serving series from playmaker Danique Aardema initiated the turnaround. From 12-7 behind she served to a 17-12 lead.

Voltena had the utmost difficulty to pass the block of Sudosa-Desto. Paula Boonstra in particular, supported by Eline Mosselaar, was often an obstacle that could not be overcome for the home team’s attackers. The second set was taken 25-16, after which the people of Assen finished it off professionally in the third set (25-19).

‘I am especially happy for Lynn van Mill’

“Apart from the start of the second set, this was a convincing victory. I am especially happy for Lynn (van Mill) who did a great job against her old team.” All in all, the match lasted less than an hour. “I expect more opposition on Saturday at home against Activia (debutant in the Premier League), that is not a bad team.”
