The handball players of Drenth Groep Hurry-Up will play the cup final against Volendam. The Zwartemeerders won 26-30 against Bevo HC in the semi-finals.
The players of Hurry-Up danced in Panningen on Thursday evening with joy in the sports arena De Heuf. The Drents were too strong for Bevo there, which was behind the entire game and was always behind the facts. The happiness of the team from Zwartemeer was understandable. Not only were the Limburgers defeated 26-30 at home without many problems, Hurry-Up can also win a major prize for the second time with the national cup.
Then Volendam still has to be dealt with in the final, which defeated Lions 28-23. Hurry-Up, which won the cup earlier in 2011, showed that it is in excellent shape and ready for a new cup final. Bevo was in any case a size too small for the Zwartemeerders in the semi-finals in a well-filled home hall.
Hurry-Up immediately showed who’s boss
The men of coach Joop Fiege, who will be succeeded after this season by Sven Hemmes, who works for the second team of Bevo, immediately showed who was boss in Panningen. Within no time, Hurry-Up was leading 1-5 and didn’t really get into trouble after that. Of course Bevo didn’t just give in and fought back. But if the Zwartemeerders gave gas again, they ran further out.
After both teams went to the dressing rooms with the score 13-16, not much changed after the break. Hurry-Up was able to occasionally drop offensive stitches without getting into trouble. For example, not all Hurry-Up players had their sights set. Brent Riksten in particular had trouble throwing the ball behind Bevo keeper Arjan Versteijnen.
The mating was good at Hurry-Up
But the Drents could count on excellent coverage. Under the leadership of the Dane Nicolai Schoemaker, this turned out to be a major obstacle. The Bevo attackers had trouble finding holes in Drenthe’s defense And when they did succeed, Hurry-Up keeper Boris Tot was often in the right place to thrashing the shots out of his goal. Circle runner Sjoerd Boonstra was an attraction in itself in the cover. With his massive body he formed an impassable piece of wall. He also lifted his opponents off the ground with one arm and then gently laid them down on the floor.
Hurry-Up kept control of the game after the break. The Drenten were always three or four goals ahead in a duel in which it was often tough. That led to the necessary time penalties and penalty throws back and forth. Because Bevo had more trouble stopping the Drenthe attackers according to the rules, they conceded more penalties. Specialist René Jaspers of Hurry-Up knew what to do with that. He scored five times from a penalty throw.
Bevo played a lost game
The few dozen Hurry-Up supporters who traveled to Panningen saw their team expand their lead. Right corner player Harm Meijer brought it to the maximum 21-27. Bevo backed off and came a little closer, but could by no means deter the Blackmen from their well-deserved victory. That was a fact moments later with 26-30. On Saturday, the Drents will travel to Panningen with even more confidence when Bevo is again the opponent in the championship pool.
