The UK has been eagerly awaiting the lucky winners of the biggest prize ever, Sky News reports. Until now, it has remained quiet around the brand new multimillionaires. The news that turned their lives upside down has now been able to sink in for a week.
Hairdresser and sales manager
The couple has two children in primary school. Jess also has two older children from a previous marriage. Joe is a sales manager and Jess runs a hair salon. The couple has been married for 11 years. Jess shared that her father always dreamed of winning the lottery. When her father died seven years ago, Jess decided to play along from now on.
Joe found out on his phone early in the morning that he had won the jackpot. “When I saw the huge amount, I first put my phone down and took a deep breath. Then I started counting the numbers. My wife was still in bed at the time. When I woke her up to tell her, she wouldn’t believe it. She thought I wasn’t wearing my glasses.”
To be precise, the couple from Gloucestershire, about 150 kilometers west of London, won 184,262,899.10 British pounds, converted more than 217 million euros. They arrived at the mega amount via the numbers 3, 25, 27, 28 and 29 and the bonus numbers 4 and 9.

Joe says that – after the realization had sunk somewhat – he visited an online housing website. “We have been looking for a home for a long time and the first thing I did was remove the price filter from my search.” It can therefore be guessed where part of the mega amount won will be spent. Jess is a bit more careful and mainly thinks about renovating their current home. “So that the bucket in the hall is no longer needed to collect drops from the leaking roof during a rain shower.”
According to Joe, the hair salon had a hard time during the Covid pandemic. The couple no longer has to worry about that either.
Secret
Joe and Jess decided not to keep the happy news to themselves, but to go public with it. “We don’t want to go through life with a big secret. We want to be able to take friends on the expensive vacation without explaining what we’re paying for,” said Jess.
Sky News has calculated what the couple could buy with the megajackpot. Four Caribbean islands or 11 villas on London’s posh Hyde Park are possible.
So far, 14 players have won more than £100 million, Sky said. The previous winner, in October 2019, chose to remain anonymous after transferring £170 million to the bank account.
