Supporters wave FC Emmen in the direction of the ‘forbidden’ Leeuwarden

The support of the supporters is still there for FC Emmen at De Oude Meerdijk this afternoon, but after the players’ bus has waved goodbye, the loyal fans are forced to stay behind. They are not welcome in the stadium of Cambuur Leeuwarden, tonight’s opponent.

Supporters association Brigata Fanatico therefore calls on everyone to come to De Oude Meerdijk with bells and whistles, to give the players and staff a helping hand towards Friesland. About two hundred fans respond to that. With shirts to sign, scarves, whistles and torches, they provide an atmospheric farewell moment.

Still, many supporters would have preferred to follow the club to the Frisian capital. Supporter Erik calls it unfair: “It’s a pity that we’re not in the stadium. I get it, but it’s not really fair. Now I’m watching the game at home.”

Young fan Rick is ready with his soccer ball to be signed. He already has the signatures of Rui Mendes, Julius Dirksen and Jari Vlak and more will probably be added this afternoon. “I’m here to encourage them as best as possible, so that they maintain themselves,” he hopes. “Otherwise I would go, because they do need the supporters.”
