PSV played a match against FC Zurich at 9 p.m. on Thursday evening in the Stadium in Eindhoven. Supporters of that club gathered around four o’clock in the afternoon on the Market, where they caused considerable unrest. The unrest is said to have arisen after one of the supporters was arrested by the police.
Video images quickly circulated on the internet showing chairs flying through the air and tables being thrown at the riot police. The Heuvel covered shopping center was closed, the riot police removed bicycles and the catering industry on the Market also closed its doors. The riot police closed off the access roads to the Market and eventually locked in the hooligans.
