Supporters coordinator André: ‘FC Emmen supporters behave in an exemplary manner’

Most of the stadium bans that have been handed out to supporters in Drenthe are for throwing beer, but the storming of the field in Dordrecht has also provided the supporters coordinator with the necessary work. After the promotion, hundreds of supporters stormed onto the field of the Matchoholic Stadium to celebrate the promotion party with the FC Emmen players. Then FC Dordrecht supporters also reported on the turf, after which it became old-fashioned mats.

“We are still working on that, but I think we have been penalized disproportionately,” says Van der Aa. “It went very smoothly, until the supporters of FC Dordrecht entered the field. Our supporters were then attacked from behind. If you are attacked from behind, you naturally already have a reaction of: who was that?”

With this, the ‘SLO’ wants to add a nuance to the incident, but he says he does not justify the behavior. “We always talk to supporters and look at the specific behavior. In this case, we hope to jointly reduce the penalty.”

The KNVB will publish an extensive report on stadium bans in the Netherlands in October. Only then can you really see how the Drenthe supporter is doing compared to the rest of the Netherlands. Van der Aa is not in the least concerned: “I’m serious, we have nothing to complain about with our supporters.”
