Support fund set up for affected catering establishments Lucien & Lizette: “They have lost everything”

For example, they want to collect money for the affected catering establishments Lucien & Lizette in Christinastraat, where young adults with disabilities can work. They are now left with a huge void.

October 13, now a month and a half ago, Ostend is startled by a gas explosion in the Christinastraat. Three people are injured and some commercial buildings have to stop working. Also Lucien and Lizette, two catering establishments where young adults with a disability serve you. They have lost everything. “I miss doing things with my hands, I miss the friendship,” says Jamie.

Damage of 100,000 euros

The damage is enormous. Not only emotionally, but also materially. “We certainly have more than 100,000 euros in damage. They are two affected catering establishments, also with furniture…”, says director of Duinhelm Saskia Verelst.

To get the young adults back to work, project manager Duinhelm and sympathizers set up a support fund together with Streekfonds West-Vlaanderen and the King Baudouin Foundation. Anyone can deposit money or set up an action. The city of Ostend is also joining the search for a solution. “We are looking for a suitable building, preferably in the center of the city. This way we can show the outside world that these people can also make a perfect contribution to working life in society,” says mayor Bart Tommelein.
