While Israel’s attacks on the Gaza Strip have continued since October 7, Qatar announced that the ticket revenues of the 2023 Asian Cup will be donated to Palestine for support. Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Chairman of the Asian Cup Local Organizing Committee, stated in his statement that it is of great importance to use football as a means of showing solidarity with the Palestinian people and said, “In light of the recent events in Palestine, we must provide all the necessary assistance to support our brothers in this difficult time. “Therefore, we have decided to donate the ticket revenue from the Asian Cup in Qatar to much-needed relief efforts in Palestine,” he said. Ticket proceeds will be used to provide much-needed medical support and food aid.
Qatar will host the Asian Cup for the third time, having successfully hosted it in 1988 and 2011. Within the scope of the Asian Cup, in which 24 teams will participate, 51 matches will be played in 9 stadiums in Qatar between 12 January and 10 February 2024.
