Last October, the protection police urged Finns to take care of the data security of their home router. According to Supo, old and unupdated devices are a threat to national security.

After Supo’s warning, telecom operator Telia said in its own release that routers that are more than five years old in particular can be a threat to data security, because they may not have the latest updates.

The security concerns expressed by Supo seem to have worked for the Finns now, because Telia bulletin based on this, especially the demand for new routers has increased.

– For example, the sales of Nokia and Technicolor (routers) have increased by up to 30 percent compared to the previous weeks, Telia’s device business manager Markku Saranpää says in the announcement.

According to Saranpää, the security of their own digital devices has also started to interest customers in a completely new way. According to him, it has been great to notice that customers trust Telia in matters related to digital security.

– Telia Turvapaket’s sales increased by 40 percent compared to September. The security package is important on all devices with which online services are transacted, he mentions.

Consumers are interested in information security

DNA’s customers have also taken into account possible information security risks. The Selausturva additional service launched by DNA has particularly interested business customers in October. Managing director Sami Aavikon customers are increasingly interested in matters related to information security.

– Although there is no real spike in the sales statistics for these, customers are constantly more and more interested in information security.

The interest can be seen, for example, in updating various information security services and devices. Aavikko reminds us that there are various information security risks in increasing numbers.

– Consumers are increasingly aware that they want to protect themselves from risks. The demand for information security services is growing, says Aavikko.

Updates in order

Aavikko points out that it would be important to update the devices when the device requests it.

– Consumers sometimes have such thoughts that they don’t dare to update. Some people think that if the device works, then it is not worth upgrading. When the device offers an update, it is definitely worth doing, for example to ensure data security.

According to Aaviko, especially with older devices, it would be worthwhile to check whether the device has been updated. It is also particularly necessary to ensure that the devices connected to the modem are also updated.

– Computers, tablets, televisions and other devices. When the device suggests a software update, it’s worth doing.
