What kind of crazy story is this that can only happen in Kreuzberg and Hollywood?
by Stefanie Hofeditz
Two weeks ago, when the creators of the spirits association “Freimeisterkollektiv” asked their newsletter subscribers for help for a refugee craft distiller and his family from the Ukraine, they had no idea who would help: Superstar Pink!
What happened? The “Freimeisterkollektiv” from Kreuzberg is an association of independent spirits distillers. Anton Petrov, the owner of the Craft Distillery Voevodka in Kyiv, fled with his wife, mother-in-law and 15-month-old son. Now he supports his colleagues in Berlin and was looking for accommodation.
“Our expectations were dampened by the housing situation in Berlin. We hoped for a local tip that could lead us to an acceptable place to stay for the refugee family. But we never expected that help would come from the other side of the world.”
Because the post was read by pop icon Pink. The singer announced herself on Instagram in October as a big fan of “Amaro” – an Italian bitter liqueur from the “Freimeisterkollektiv”: “Anyone who lives in and around Berlin and gets their dirty hands on this drink – you lucky son of a bitch!”
She spontaneously organized and financed an apartment in Mitte via AirBnB. For just six months. The employees are deeply moved and write:
“Humanity wins! Thank you P!NK for encouraging us in this belief. For Anton and his family, it’s not so much a happy ending as a happy new beginning.”
