Ski queen Mikaela Shiffrin sees the tight program of the top alpine skiers as a reason for the many falls in recent weeks – including her own.
“I absolutely believe that fatigue plays a role in the many injuries at this point in the season – including mine,” wrote the American on X. Both the tight racing calendar and the evening commitments would therefore have to be reconsidered.
Top stars in particular who are successful in several disciplines would hardly have any time for relaxation. “In addition to the tight calendar, there are the media appointments and award ceremonies. Then there is a full evening program – and that is during the only 60 or 90 minutes of the weekend in which we can eat or relax,” said the 28-year-old.
Shiffrin fell on the descent in Cortina d’Ampezzo at the end of January and has been sidelined ever since. The two-time Olympic champion will also be missing from the races in Andorra this weekend.
“My knee can’t take the strain yet,” she wrote. In the overall World Cup, Shiffrin still leads Lara Gut-Behrami by 95 points, meaning the Swiss can take over the lead this weekend.
