Supermoon over Zoetermeer: You notice this

A full moon occurs every 30 days, but the one on Tuesday, June 14, 2022 is special: it is a super moon. This means that it comes closer to Earth than a normal full moon. What do Zoetermeerders notice about this? We ask advice from astrologer Esther van Heerebeek.

There is a supermoon one to three times a year. This occurs because the moon’s orbit around the Earth is oval and the Earth is not in the center of that oval. A supermoon is 16 percent brighter and 7 percent larger than a regular full moon.

You notice this in Zoetermeer from the supermoon

The moon affects the tides of the sea (ebb and flow), but how does it actually affect us? Esther van Heerebeek is the resident astrologer of, among others, the magazines Flair and Grazia. She explains: “Just as the sea reacts more violently to a full moon, people also notice that they can feel more restless. This is because we consist of about 60 percent water.”

This supermoon is all about Sagittarius. “Sagittarius is about following your intuition and daring to live big. Do you dare to make mistakes? Do you follow your own path? During a full moon you can pay extra attention to this. Do you want to chase dreams or step out of your comfort zone? Then now is the time to do it. The good news is that luck is often on the side of the archer.”

Just pull out your binoculars

Have you always wanted to get a closer look at the moon? Then this is the time. Because the moon is so close to Earth, you can see a lot of details on the moon with binoculars. You can see, among other things, mares (seas on the moon) and craters of smashed space debris.

It is best to go to a place where there is little air pollution from buildings and street lights. Near Zoetermeer, these are, for example, one of the Zoetermeerse parks such as the Buytenpark, or along the Zoetermeerse Plas.

Biggest full moon of the year

The moon will be 357,658 kilometers from Earth on Tuesday. She comes up around 11pm and disappears before sunrise at 4am. On July 13, 2022, there will be another supermoon, which is slightly further from Earth than the moon of June 14.
