Marianne Streel of the Walloon agricultural organization FWA calls it “a good step”. She announced this on Friday at the entrance of the first meeting of the task force that was set up after the farmers’ protest. This consultation brings together ministers, producers and the distribution sector. They are talking about the prices for agricultural products and the price margins in the various links in the chain.
Farmers are also critical of the decision. “In our opinion it is insufficient,” Hendrik Vandamme of the ABS told VTM News. “We are really asking for structural adjustments in price formation.” Vandamme claims that the price increase is only half of what the sector needs. “We are now with a proposal of half a euro at slaughterhouse level. As far as growers themselves are concerned, this should be at least one euro.”
