Superdry is said to be in talks with a US investor

Struggling British retailer Superdry is said to be in talks with Oak Furnitureland owner Davidson Kempner and looking at ways to privatize the company.

The US investor is said to be one of the parties approached by Superdry founder Julian Dunkerton to secure a bid for the retail chain amid a turbulent economic situation, according to news platform Sky News.

According to the media company, which does not cite any specific source, the talks are still in the early stages without a final agreement being guaranteed.

Another potential buyer reportedly in talks with Dunkerton is Retail Realisation, a company backed by turnaround investor Rcapital, Sky said.

It was previously known that Dunkerton was considering buying a majority stake in Superdry and expanding its almost 30 percent shareholding.

This development comes even as the retailer is currently implementing a turnaround strategy after experiencing a series of sales declines last year. This mood continued in the most recent half-year report, which shows a decline in sales of 23.5 percent.

As a result, Dunkerton confirmed earlier this month that it is exploring a possible acquisition and has hired consultants to oversee the process and assess cost-saving opportunities while engaging with potential financing partners.
